Nostalgia is excessively sentimental yearning for return or of some past period or irrecoverable condition (Merriam-Webster).
Have you ever wanted to relive moments of the past again? If you could, what would you do? How would relive the nostalgia moment that you think about so often? Since you are no unable to relive that moment, what can you do to move forward from that moment? Ask yourself why was that particular nostalgia moment is so essential to you?
These are really good questions to ask self about what is going on within. Going through withdrawals of letting go of the past. It so easy to begin to relive the moments that brought me so much love, joy, and peace, then I begin to remember.
Job 8:7 CEV, “Your future will be brighter by far than your past.”
Nostalgia is a mental state where you convince yourself that the past was greater than your present moment. It is an illusion built off of your imagination. The interesting thing is that many tend to confuse their imagination with reality.
The dangerous thing that many cannot distinguish between imagination and reality, so they fed others with their imagination rather than their truth. Healing reveals the truth and living an unhealed life creates imagination. You begin to make mental pictures that are based on assumptions towards life. Many associate imagination with creativity. I believe it isn’t. Inspiration and vision are attached to creativity.
The word imagine in Latin means to form a mental picture or picture of oneself. Begin to take some time to understand that your presence is more important than your past. Your present moment is the freedom needed to carry you into your tomorrow God willing.
Every nostalgia moment is connected to an emotion we never felt before in our life in the past, and we are now in living with the past emotion. It is signal to inform you that healing should begin within. Many try to fight and control the external when the internal is where the true battle lies. Here are five ways to overcome Nostalgia:
1. Choose Positivity and Communicate With Clarity
When the state of Nostalgia comes up, it is always best to choose thoughts that produce positivity and speak to self with clarity. Ensure that the self-talk you are feeding yourself is not thoughts of the past.
Speaking positivity to self reduces confusion and anxiety. It gives you the ability to focus on the bigger picture of your current situation and begin to assess your emotions that are linking to your nostalgia state of being. Helps you to embrace the new in your life.
2. Show Gratitude and Default to Transparency
It is best to show gratitude for your present moment and the nostalgia feeling you are currently experiencing. Gratitude helps you to embrace the adversity you’re currently experiencing, your mental health, and help you establish a healthier with self and life.
Ensure you display transparency with self, where you are allowing yourself to be vulnerable with your current emotions and moment. Sometimes we get in habit of holding our emotions in, where never take the time to explore the emotions of nostalgia. Many are not aware of it either. Allow yourself to be open and honest with what you are feeling and perspective of your current situation.
4. Listen And Don’t Allow Your Ego to Lead You
Take time to listen to your inner-wisdom to distinguish your current situation. Listening helps you to receive and interpret whether you are living in imagination or reality. Ensure that you connect with your inner truth once the process of healing has occurred.
Your inner-truth comforts you with peace and self-confidence, which will help to recognize who you really are. Not allowing your ego to lead helps you to release the old with love and appreciate. Begin to welcome in the new even though you feel uncomfortable to do so. Embracing the new is appreciating the blessing of your present moment and recognize that better is here.
Romans 8:18 CEV, “I am sure what we are suffering now cannot compare with the glory that will be shown to us.”
Trust that better is coming. Do not allow your false self (ego) to guide you in a moment of nostalgia because it will leave you to despise your present moment, attach to items that make the nostalgia seem real, and allow your to battle within. Your true self will always win if you allow yourself to be vulnerable to feel.
5.Focus On Self-Improvement And Make Time To Reflect
We live in an era where everyone is concerned about everyone besides self. Pay attention to self and grow from the nostalgia moment that is no longer serving who you are currently. Obtain the knowledge to improve (Divine) spiritually, mentally, emotionally, physically, and financially. This will help to improve your character or obtain characteristics that display Christ-like of characteristics of self-control, peace, gentleness, love, and faith.
This gives you the resilience and the will power you need to put forth the effort to complete the task at hand that life throws at you. When you set your intention to focus on self-improvement, you will dedicate time to self-reflect upon your progress, growth, goals, short-comings, mistakes, and old habits.
When experiencing nostalgia it is best to obtain and maintain faith that better is coming. Recognize that your present moment will pass so appreciate it. Especially, when all the odds are against you. Pressuring you that people will not change and the circumstances in your life will not either.
Believe that better is coming in your life and for much better is here currently. Nostalgia stops you from living your best life, producing a life your vision, and appreciate the life you currently have. It is okay to reminisce, but ensure that you don’t stay in the moment of nostalgia.
Mark 5:34 CEV, “Jesus said to the woman, “You are now well because of your faith. May God give you peace! You are healed, and you will no longer be in pain.”
Nothing that is gone in your life is needed or necessary for your current life. What’s meant to be will come at the right moment. You will no longer grieve over what you lost but focus on what you have gained. What you have gained is far greater than what is lost.
Fight for your healing and acknowledge what you deserve in life. You deserve abundance and abundance can only be obtained through gratitude, setting your intentions, and allow the Holy Spirit to lead you. Bless up… you got this!
